The Freelance Balance

Answering the real questions freelancers ask.

About

The Freelance Balance.

From sleep to stress, I’m here to get into the nitty-gritty details of being self-employed that the ”how-to” guides skip.

Why?

Because I’m a freelancer who’s been in your shoes (and still is!)

I’ve had (many) a moment of panic and Googled “freelance work causing insomnia” and “is freelance writing a dying industry.” I’ve trawled through reddit and decades-old blogs. And I’ve spent hours trying to find the answer.

So, forget reading those cold pitching guides or how to make $10K this month.

It’s time to take a realistic look at freelancing that doesn’t make you feel bad for not waking up at 5am and jumping into an ice bath. Yeowch

Just call this site the compassionate man’s guide to freelancing. Because it doesn’t have to be a struggle and, really, we’re all in this together.

Wait, Who Are You?

I’m a British freelancer who’s has years of experience in the online gig economy.

I’m a copywriter by trade, but I’m here to help all freelancers — not just my fellow word wizards.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m no expert or big dog.

However, I have spent years researching the ins and outs of freelancing, and sometimes my niche queries don’t bring up the results I want, which is uber frustrating when I know I’m not the only one facing the issue. This blog serves as a space for my research and findings, and as a way to help fellow freelancers with one message — you’re not alone!

From insomnia to those moments when your family and friend just don’t get your career, it’s always nice to know someone else understands.

Disclaimer: This isn’t a niche blog with an aim of making money. I promise this is a purely personal project born out of the desire for a private blog.

Ok Sure, But Who Are YOU?

For now, I’m keeping this blog anonymous. Buuuut, here are some general details about me.

I’m from the UK, but am currently living overseas in Germany.

I am a copy and SEO blog writer who fell into the career by accident.

I started with online magazine internships and found myself using keywords within a year.

Anything non-work related?

Sometimes I read, sometimes I run, mostly I’m online.
